How long does treatment with clear aligners usually take?
Clear aligner treatments usually require 12 – 18 months, and often, you’ll see a noticeable change from as early as 6 months. Simpler cases may need less time, while more complex cases could take longer. Treatment duration really depends on your individual needs, the severity of your misalignment or overcrowding issues, and how consistent you are with wearing your clear aligners. At Burwood Diamond Dental, we’ll give you a tailored timeline so you know what to expect from day one.
Can clear aligners fix all types of teeth misalignment?
Clear aligners work best for mild to moderate cases of crowding, spacing, and bite issues. They’re great for tweens, teens and adults with:
- Crowding or overlapping teeth
- Mild to moderate bite issues, like overbites, underbites and crossbites
- Gaps in between teeth
For more complex problems, other orthodontic options like ceramic or metal braces, or a combination of treatments, might be recommended instead. During your consultation, our team will provide recommendations to achieve the best results for your smile.
How do I care for my clear aligners?
Looking after your teeth, and your clear aligners, is easy, requiring just a little more effort than usual.
- Rinse your clear aligners in lukewarm water whenever they’re removed
- Clean your clear aligners, ideally twice daily, with a soft toothbrush and mild soap
- Remove your aligners when you’re eating or drinking anything but water
- Store your clear aligners properly in their case, when you’re not wearing them, to prevent damage or loss
Are clear aligners comfortable to wear?
Yes! Clear aligners are super comfortable. Each set is custom-made from smooth plastic, tapered to gently move your teeth into their new, desired position. There are no fixed brackets, no rubber bands, and none of the irritation that is often associated with traditional metal braces. For many patients, their removability for meals, sports and oral hygiene means there is little to no impact on their lifestyle, either.
